I hope this is the end of this storyline, and we certainly won't see them climb down there. |

After the week start, it's turning funny... Wouldn't mind to see yet another sequel, if it holds up the standard. |

So that's how he curses your inventory from thin air. |

Rodney is actually chaotic, not a Molochite, but pretty good story arc all the same! |

Sorry, fellas...it's not the ending yet. We're getting very close, though. |

Rodney is actually unaligned. His in-game alignment is -127, same as the priests of . But Rodney isn't alinged to , he's chaotic unaligned. If that makes sense. So if you're a , that doesn't mean Rodney's aligned to or anything like that. |

The religion or alignment of Rodney is an interesting topic indeed. I'd say there's no perfect answer to it. Actually, his alignment is not "chaotic" even though you could think so from using a stethoscope or other such means. In monst.c it is A-NONE. This is a special constant which has a value of -128, most likely for technical reasons. Everything from -127 to 127 belongs to the common C-N-L range. -128 is used for unaligned, maybe to leave a symmetric range for common values. (There's no +128 in typical signed 8-bit implementations.) However, as a result of this the "stethoscope test" for both 's priests and Rodney returns "chaotic". Obviously this is not true. It's really A-NONE which just happens to be -128, a negative value.
"0" is not unaligned. It's neutral. -128 is "none", not chaotic.
So, Rodney does not belong to the C-N-L classification. He is unaligned, which leaves or possibly some even more obscure . To me sounded like the most reasonable option. After all, Rodney has built his in Gehennom which is strictly 's domain. He also uses phrases like "Destroy the thief" and "Relinquish the ". The is stolen from the high of so Rodney seems to find him the rightful owner of it. He doesn't seem to be particularly interested in the Book - the only special item he owns. Finally, he always seems to return the to the high after killing Dudley. From these I concluded that would be the most logical solution. At least it results in a juicy storyline. Of course, you're free to disagree.
Unfortunately there's a minor discrepancy between this story and that certain 2005 strip, depending on how you see it. In that one Rodney played NH and ascended that way. (He played a chaotic character as you can't create an unaligned one.) Now he's actually trying to reach demigod-hood. Let's see how it goes... |

Personally, I think that makes the most sense. It is possible to argue that because the will kill the High of and take the , that he is not a follower of and wants the for himself; however, I'd be more likely to say that this behavior isn't strictly intended. (Or maybe the just thinks he'd make a better guardian of the ?)
Of course, as far as logic goes, there's no way a follower of could ascend, since already has the , doesn't seem to want it off the material plane, etc. (There was a storyline about exactly that a while ago... http://www.nicolaas.net/dudley/index.php?f=20050719 ) |

Just to give you a reference, the mstatusline() function which does the probing is in pline.c, row 278. Its alignment check only recognises whether a value is less, equal or more than zero. There's no "unaligned" case so it's impossible to get that one as a result. Molochian creatures are shown as chaotic. This might count as a bug? |
