That's a grid bugThese electronically based creatures are not native to this
universe. They appear to come from a world whose laws of
motion are radically different from ours.

Tron looked to his mate and pilot. "I'm going to check on
the beam connection, Yori. You two can keep a watch out for
grid bugs." Tron paced forward along the slender catwalk
that still seemed awfully insubstantial to Flynn, though he
knew it to be amazingly sturdy. He gazed after Tron, asking
himself what in the world a grid bug was, and hoping that the
beam connection -- to which he'd given no thought whatsoever
until this moment -- was healthy and sound."

with an attitude!
Somehow his vocabulary reminds me of Bun-Bun in Sluggy.

And that makes me wonder, if someone made a bunny patch for Nethack, what symbol would represent a bunny? I don't normally play in text mode, but the graphics mode myself so I'm not fully sure on the system used for many creatures letters.

No. The r is reserved for rodents. Rabbits are not rodents. They are lagomorphs.

Then again, a is used for "antThis giant variety of the ordinary ant will fight just as
fiercely as its small, distant cousin. Various varieties
exist, and they are known and feared for their relentless
persecution of their victims.

sign himself as a xornA distant cousin of the earth elemental, the xorn has the
ability to shift the cells of its body around in such a way
that it becomes porous to inert material. This gives it the
ability to pass through any obstacle that might be between it
and its next meal.

So what symbol would they be? (Matt M P's original question)

Interesting. Wikipedia says lagomorpha was designated in 1912, but I have two modern dictionaries that mention rabbits under "rodent". One fudges by giving a secondary definition of "rodent" as "a small mammal".

Considering the preference in Nethack for antiquated and mythologic systems, r could still be a valid symbol, especially if Nethack's embedded encyclopedia clarified the lagomorpha vs rodentia issue.
