Well, the real joke is that when you're going to THAT MUCH trouble to get an item (he did, after all, edit objects.c and recompile nethack) you can skip most of it simply by way of replacing an item that is automatically given to your class of choice.

Unfortunately for Dudley the "Wishing" part is an acronym for "Willful invoktion shall have a instant newt(kinds of) small animal, like a lizard, which spends most of its time in the water.
