I think he hit a trapdoorI knew my Erik too well to feel at all comfortable on jumping
into his house. I knew what he had made of a certain palace at
Mazenderan. From being the most honest building conceivable, he
soon turned it into a house of the very devil, where you could
not utter a word but it was overheard or repeated by an echo.
With his trap-doors the monster was responsible for endless
tragedies of all kinds.

I think the first to panels have to be seen as one panel (therefore are larger view of the room). But I don't get the third frame either :)

Oh, viewing it a while makes it clear (somehow): The three panels have to be seen as a single maze. Dudley just moved from the second panel to the third and recognizes that it's repeating. :P

That makes sense, I think.

this is the way i see it: the first two panels are sequential - he dropped down (first panel), and then moved right (between first & second). he waited for a moment, in shock (that's the second panel). then he said something (third).

Maybe it is something about the heck patchs?
Does that look like a normal maze?
Not quite ever got that far myself :(

Gehennom usually doesn't have random pools of waterDay after day, day after day,
We stuck, nor breath nor motion;
As idle as a painted ship
Upon a painted ocean.

Water, water, everywhere,
And all the boards did shrink;
Water, water, everywhere
Nor any drop to drink.

A lake in hell? Hmm. I wonder if this is a set-up for tomorrow's joke.

What I don't understand is why Dudley says "What the heck".
I think the three panels are to be seen as a whole but I'm not quite sure.

It's about the Heck -patch; Some gehennom levels are slightly modified in it...

I don't think there's a reference, but the actual joke eludes me. So I didn't rate it.

Seeing as how nobody seems to get it, I hereby bestow upon this comic a rating of *poor*, for inability to successfully convey humor.
