Now really, is there any reason this couldn't have just been tacked on to the beginning of the next comic and actually, you know, have a punchline?

No, Dudley. Don't try it. It is simply not possible to ascend a foodless atheist pacifist.

I only give it a mediocre, but I think it is leading into something good.

Foreshadow, foreshadow, foreshadow.......

Don't open that doorThrough me you pass into the city of woe:
Through me you pass into eternal pain:
Through me among the people lost for aye.
Justice the founder of my fabric mov'd:
To rear me was the task of power divine,
Supremest wisdom, and primeval love.
Before me things create were none, save things
Eternal, and eternal I endure.
All hope abandon ye who enter here.

Nameless raises a good point. Presuming that Dion is attempting the style of the daily newspaper comics, it just points up how difficult it is for the authors of certain comics that try to keep a thread going an entire week - keeping the story moving, while having a punch line at the end of each three panels, is just not that easy. I agree with Nameless though, that in this instance Dion should have tried harder. :) Since I don't know what comes next, it's hard to suggest what the third panel here might have done for a joke.

Well, the first thought that came to my mind was to put something ironic behind the doorThrough me you pass into the city of woe:
Through me you pass into eternal pain:
Through me among the people lost for aye.
Justice the founder of my fabric mov'd:
To rear me was the task of power divine,
Supremest wisdom, and primeval love.

. But... as he said, we don't know where it's going.

My dear critical friends...there was no comic this monday or tuesday. Do you have any idea why it could be so? Maybe if some of our comedy professionals could turn their infinite knowledge into practice and write a few strips, there wouldn't be any need for hasty half-strips by Dion. Hmh?

If you think these strips are so bad, then write your own.

Sorry latin-prefix-moron, but people can't always be funny on queue. If they could every single strip would be excellent-worthy and there'd never be any shortages.

I wouldn't have minded a To Be Continued sign.
