You drink from the
fountainRest! This little Fountain runs
Thus for aye: -- It never stays
For the look of summer suns,
Nor the cold of winter days.
Whose'er shall wander near,
When the Syrian heat is worst,
Let him hither come, nor fear
Lest he may not slake his thirst:
He will find this little river
Running still, as bright as ever.
Let him drink, and onward hie,
Bearing but in thought, that I,
Erotas, bade the Naiad fall,
And thank the great god Pan for all!

among their kind, they have their own societies. They are
sometimes encountered on earth and may even be summoned here
to perform some service for powerful wizards. The wizards
often leave them about for later service, safely tucked away

when released that they might grant their rescuer a wish.

Is "Such a thing..." the actual NH message? Doesn't seem familiar. I think "Unfortunately, nothing happens" is at least possible, if luck is bad, which would have been more or less along the lines of what this comic is about. I don't have the source handy to look.

The actual message is "Nothing fitting that description exists in the game."

I was wondering what happened to Dudley's first dogA domestic animal, the _tame dog_ (_Canis familiaris_), of
which numerous breeds exist. The male is called a dog,
while the female is called a bitch. Because of its known
loyalty to man and gentleness with children, it is the
world's most popular domestic animal. It can easily be
trained to perform various tasks.

Rated G as well. Good idea, misplaced execution in places.

Also, since we're nitpicking anyway, doesn't that line end with an exclamation in the game, rpresser?

Wow....I know that I like the game. NetHack is the game that I've played most consistently for the longest number of years, but I don't have all of the messages memorized. When I've written comics, I've searched the webOh what a tangled web we weave,

for the right message when possible just to appease the critics, but....wow.

I rated it G because I thought it was a good idea that didn't make me guffaw but brought a smile to my face. No points wereIn 1573, the Parliament of Dole published a decree, permitting
the inhabitants of the Franche-Comte to pursue and kill a
were-wolf or loup-garou, which infested that province,
"notwithstanding the existing laws concerning the chase."
The people were empowered to "assemble with javelins,
halberds, pikes, arquebuses and clubs, to hunt and pursue the
said were-wolf in all places where they could find it, and to
take, burn, and kill it, without incurring any fine or other
penalty." The hunt seems to have been successful, if we may
judge from the fact that the same tribunal in the following
year condemned to be burned a man named Giles Garnier, who
ran on all fours in the forest and fields and devoured little
children, "even on Friday." The poor lycanthrope, it appears,
had as slight respect for ecclesiastical feasts as the French
pig, which was not restrained by any feeling of piety from
eating infants on a fast day.

P. Obvious joke, I hope this is the 1st in a series. Also, I'm not sure Dudley would wish for that. He doesn't seem to be in character...

Why would you want an entire series of obvious jokes? :)

Quint Sakugarne: No, it does not end with an exclamation point. It ends with a period, and is followed immediately by a --More-- prompt. Check for yourself in wizmode.

SQL Guru: it is trivial to use wizmode to obtain the exact message. Given the readership of this comic, you should expect to be called on messages.

The plot's worth a fine G, but, in the end, the comic doesn't bring up any new figure about the game. I mean, everybody knows playing NetHack ain't safe - at least not for one's social affairs.
