What do you want to
call the newt(kinds of) small animal, like a lizard, which spends most of
its time in the water.
        [ Oxford's Student's Dictionary of Current English ]

"Fillet of a fenny snake,
In the cauldron boil and bake;
Eye of newt and toe of frog,
Wool of bat and tongue of dog,
Adder's fork and blind-worm's sting,
Lizard's leg and howlet's wing,
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble."

It's just a joke, folks. One US politician has the name of a NetHack monster, another
sounds like a NetHack scroll, nothing more.

Saw the footnote, used Google, still :-|

And that's not a newt(kinds of) small animal, like a lizard, which spends most of
its time in the water.

The footnote says it all, at least if you're making a bit of an effort to follow US politics... Otherwise, not so much.

The comic could have been a bit shorter, though.

I caught the references and thought it was mildy humorous....enough to giggle at when I haven't yet had my caffeine.

I'm not sure I understood the comment about the wall sections.

Meh, I didn't expect stellar ratings to this one; I re-submitted it after Dion indicated last week he was all out of cartoons. At heart, it's Just Another Newt(kinds of) small animal, like a lizard, which spends most of
its time in the water.

Comic. Maybe someday Zelgo Mer will be the new Indonesian prime minister, or Venzar Borgavve in Denmark, and you will think back on this comic and laff.

Being in Britain, this comic meant nothing to me.

Being from Alpha Centauri, I am getting a kick out of these replies.

Living in the US, I got it. Unfortunately, it just isn't very good. Fair.

It should be a scrollAnd I was gazing on the surges prone,
With many a scalding tear and many a groan,
When at my feet emerg'd an old man's hand,
Grasping this scroll, and this same slender wand.
I knelt with pain--reached out my hand--had grasp'd
Those treasures--touch'd the knuckles--they unclasp'd--
I caught a finger: but the downward weight
O'erpowered me--it sank. Then 'gan abate
The storm, and through chill aguish gloom outburst
The comfortable sun. I was athirst
To search the book, and in the warming air
Parted its dripping leaves with eager care.
Strange matters did it treat of, and drew on
My soul page after page, till well-nigh won
Into forgetfulness; when, stupefied,
I read these words, and read again, and tried
My eyes against the heavens, and read again.

labeled BARACK OBAMA.

And technically it doesn't work that way with named monsters... but doing it right would have messed up the joke.

Eh well.

Looking back a couple of years later, I would just like to give myself props on being ahead of the curve on Obama. I suspect today there would be no "Being in Britain" comments. :)
