    amulet of"The complete Amulet can keep off all the things that make
people unhappy -- jealousy, bad temper, pride, disagreeableness,
greediness, selfishness, laziness. Evil spirits, people called
them when the Amulet was made. Don't you think it would be nice
to have it?"
"Very," said the children, quite without enthusiasm.
"And it can give you strength and courage."
"That's better," said Cyril.
"And virtue."
"I suppose it's nice to have that," said Jane, but not with much
interest.
"And it can give you your heart's desire."
"Now you're talking," said Robert.

psyche (being worn) Weapons b - an uncursed -2 leather sword c - a cursed -1 orcish arrowI shot an arrow into the air,
It fell to earth, I knew not where;
For, so swiftly it flew, the sight
Could not follow it in its flight.

I breathed a song into the air,
It fell to earth, I knew not where;
For who has sight so keen and strong
That it can follow the flight of song?

Long, long afterward, in an oak
I found the arrow still unbroke;
And the song, from beginning to end,
I found again in the heart of a friend.

Also incorrectly spelled "sike".

Psh... A walkthrough for how to understand this one...

1. What medallion glows when you die?

2. What medallion is Dudley wearing?

3. What happens when you die, first thing?

'an uncursed -2 leather sword'?

(Sounds like something you'd get in Grunthack).

Leather sword does sound GruntHackish, especially since it has glass pick-axes.=/

Note for future: absurdity != comedy

But this does remind me of the "killed by trickery" which I saw in the deaths at the recent devnull tournament. Anyone know how that was accomplished?

Isn't that when a "bag of"Now, this third handkerchief," Mein Herr proceeded, "has also
four edges, which you can trace continuously round and round:
all you need do is to join its four edges to the four edges of
the opening. The Purse is then complete, and its outer
surface--"
"I see!" Lady Muriel eagerly interrupted. "Its outer surface
will be continuous with its inner surface! But it will take
time. I'll sew it up after tea." She laid aside the bag, and
resumed her cup of tea. "But why do you call it Fortunatus's
Purse, Mein Herr?"
The dear old man beamed upon her, with a jolly smile, looking
more exactly like the Professor than ever. "Don't you see,
my child--I should say Miladi? Whatever is inside that Purse,
is outside it; and whatever is outside it, is inside it. So
you have all the wealth of the world in that leetle Purse!"

tricks" bites you to death[Pestilence:] And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals,
and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four
beasts saying, Come and see. And I saw, and behold a white

[Famine:] And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the
third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black
horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his
hand. And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say,
A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley
for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.

[Death:] And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the
voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see. And I looked, and

the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with
hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.

holding? Or whatever those damn bags are called that bite me instead of holding all my scrolls and stuff I want to protect from waterDay after day, day after day,
We stuck, nor breath nor motion;
As idle as a painted ship
Upon a painted ocean.

Water, water, everywhere,
And all the boards did shrink;
Water, water, everywhere
Nor any drop to drink.

by trickery happens when the level files of the game going on are inconsistent with what the game expects. This may mean that somebody outside the game has been tampering with the files, but could also mean that there has been some problem with saving the level data when the playerThese strange creatures live mostly on the surface of the
earth, gathering together in societies of various forms, but
occasionally a stray will descend into the depths and commit
mayhem among the dungeon residents who, naturally, often
resent the intrusion of such beasts. They are capable of
using weapons and magic, and it is even rumored that the
Wizard of Yendor is a member of this species.

Well, nobody got it, but rest assured that it involved Nameless, and the word "sike" (spelling incorrect) within the panel itself - thus rendering it invisible to the archive search feature.

Eh, "sike" is how we spelled it back in grade school when we actually said it. To me, psyche means personality.

I would have thought that "sike" would actually be spelt "psych"; psyche is pronounced sigh-key and is a different word which is used in referring to the Greek mythological character and the mind...
Or maybe it should be "psike"? That way everybody's (un)happy!
